In an exciting and dramatic final, Enmore Park Golf Club took the premier Golf Union Trophy for the year 2000 beating Vivary Park Golf Club in a keenly contested match at Taunton Vale Golf Club on Sunday. Hot favourites Enmore did their very best not to win at one stage of the event but it was eventually the trusty putter of Dave Winn at the third extra hole in the final match that completed the victory
Dixon wins Play Off to add the Somerset County Championship to his impressive haul for 2000. At the end of a week that saw his selection to the full England side for the home countries Internationals, and his appointment as leader of the three-man England representative side to contest the Chiberta Grand Prix in France later this month, David Dixon from Enmore Park Golf Club added the Somerset County Championship to his already impressive list of successes for the year 2000.
With one of the strongest teams in recent times at the regional Amateur Golf Championships the Somerset team not only won through undefeated in the inter-counties match play Championship, they also won the right to represent the South West at the County Finals later this year by winning the team stroke play competition.
The County Senior Championship for those over 55 years of age took place at Bath G.C.on Friday 19th.May and attracted 25 entries. The competition started at 9 a.m. and the first bit of excitement was when the organising committee were stuck in a traffic jam but thanks to the mobile phone and perhaps divine intervention they arrived hotfoot at about one minute to nine and all was well in the end. Club Secretary Paul Ware had stepped into the breach and got everything sorted and the SGU appreciated his help.
