The Trounson Trophy & Presidents Cup for 1999 were held on the Sunday the 5th of September at Minehead Golf Club. The weather for the event could hardly have been better for golf. The usual links winds were nowhere to be seen which left the course open for some great golf. The standard of golf on the day was outstanding. Even with slightly easier than normal conditions a gross 66 carded by Enmore Park's Kevin Budd was a truly remarkable score. The story of the day was somewhat unfamiliar in that the home club more often than not seems to take the trophy. However once again Enmore Park took both the Trounson & Windwhistle Trophies, as they had done the previous year. Enmore's players also managed to scoop a number of the individual prizes notably Kevin Budd winning the Presidents Cup, winning a net competition playing off two handicap is surely a very rare occurrence. It was also good to see a number of the younger clubs in the county performing well not least Long Sutton finishing second. The day in general was a big success. And all credit must go to the members of the Somerset Golf Union Committee who's hard work allows events like this to be a success. This event was Bill Jennings' (Honorary Competition Secretary) last event as he retires at the end of this year. Tony Pendray (County President) thanked Bill for his work over the last 238 years!
